3 govt staff dupe people of Rs 3.16 crores

Bhubaneswar: Some government employees, including an army jawan, have allegedly duped several persons of crores of rupees on the pretext of tour packages through a fake travel website.

Ajaya Kumar Nayak of Dumduma in the city here has lodged a complaint with the Kharavela Nagar police in this regard.

According to the complaint, two officials of Indian Railways and one army jawan had jointly created a website to offer tour packages. The website was offering lucrative tour packages to various places across the country.

The trio urged people to register themselves at the website to avail the benefit.  The fraudsters allegedly had promised the registered members of their website to provide financial reward if they click on the advertisements of hotel rooms.

The fraudsters also promised to give commission to the members if they managed to bring new members to the website.

The trio had allegedly collected Rs 12,000 each from around 3,000 people from across the state as membership fee. The fraudsters had managed to collect Rs 3.16 crores, said the complaint.

Initially, the fraudsters paid the commission and other benefits to the members but they stopped paying money to their members in February 2019, added the complaint.

The Kharavela Nagar police have initiated a probe into the incident after registering a case in this regard.
