Bhawanipatna: Police Thursday busted a fake Indian currency notes (FICN) racket and arrested three youths on charge of printing fake currency notes and circulating them in the market under Borda police outpost limits in Kalahandi district.
The accused were identified as Santosh Bhoi, 26, from Bhawanipatna, Kanha Mohapatra, 22, from Borda area and Mantu Chandan, 24, from Rajinpur area in the district, Bhawanipatna SDPO Sunaram Hembram said. A currency note printing machine and fake currency notes worth Rs 9,000 were seized from their possession.
The accused were taken for interrogation and later produced in the court, the SDPO said. Police said they registered a case after some residents lodged a complaint November 14 on circulation of fake currency notes in the market under K Gaon police limits.
An investigation was launched into the charges jointly by K Gaon and Borda police. During the probe, police found that the accused had purchased a printing machine. During trial, he first printed notes of Rs 500 and Rs 200 denominations amounting Rs 10,000 and released those in the local market and waited to see people’s response. However, luck ran out for the accused as some people identified the fake notes and lodged a complaint in the K Gaon police station.
