Bhawanipatna: One person and two minors have been arrested for extorting money from a villager posing as Maoists at Dudkaranja village under M Rampur police limits in Kalahandi district, cops informed Tuesday.
According to the police, the villager, a liquor shop owner, had found two posters pasted close to the front door of his house February 8 morning. It asked the shop owner to deposit Rs 20,000 in a bank account failing which he would be punished by the Maoists. Out of fear, the villager deposited the said amount to the account number given on the poster.
However, he also lodged a report with the police. The police began investigating into the case. They kept a watch on the account number given in the poster. When the entire amount was recently withdrawn, the cops zeroed in on the trio.
First they were detained for questioning. After a session of interrogation all the three were arrested. Some Maoist posters were also seized from their possession. The police are yet to reveal the identities of the three accused. They are trying to ascertain whether the three have proper connection with the red rebels.
