3 killed in Sambalpur road mishap as speeding truck hits 2 motorcycles

Sambalpur: At least three persons were killed and another sustained critical injuries after the motorcycles they were riding was hit by a speeding truck at Bareipali area in Sambalpur district late Tuesday night.

According to sources, the deceased were residents of Hirakud area in the district. The four persons were on two motorcycles when an unknown truck hit their vehicles near Bareipali at around 1.30am. Three of them died on the spot.

The injured was rescued by locals who immediately called an ambulance and sent him to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla.

The health condition of the injured is stated to be critical.

On being informed, local police reached the accident site. Police have registered a case in this connection and launched a probe.

Police has been scrutinising the video footages of CCTV cameras installed at a nearby petrol pump, a police official said.
