Berhampur: In a fatal incident that took place late Sunday night, as many as three persons were killed after being hit by a moving train near a level crossing of Ganjam district.
According to a source, the tragic mishap occurred near Haldiapadar level crossing of Berhampur between 11.30pm and 12midnight.
About seven to eight daily wagers were crossing the railway tracks near Haldiapadar level crossing, who were unaware of the incoming Visakhapatnam-Tatanagar Express on the same route, an eyewitness expressed.
The speeding train ran over at least three of them while four others had a close shave. However, the labourers who escaped left the spot soon after the incident, the eyewitness added.

Some locals informed government railway police (GRP) about the incident Monday morning. Police rushed to the spot and recovered the mutilated bodies of three labourers from the railway tracks.
Identities of the deceased have not been ascertained yet. Police have registered a case in this connection and launched a probe, an official informed.
