Berhampur: Police unraveled the mystery behind the murder of a youth at Dhanamera Sahi under Bada Bazaar police limits here as it arrested three minor boys in this connection Wednesday.
The slain youth was identified as Sonu Ghadai, a resident of Dhanamera Sahi in the city. The accused minors fed up with Ghadai’s alleged illicit relationship with a married woman and his regular habit of harassing girls and women in the locality first bludgeoned his head with a stone and later slit his throat with a surgical blade.
A surgical blade and stones used in the crime were seized by the police. The accused were produced before a juvenile justice board from where they were remanded to a probation home.
This was stated here by ASPs Shantanu Das, Prabhat Routray and IIC Kulamani Sethi at a press meet held at Gosani Nuagaon police station Wednesday. Police registered a case over a complaint filed by Ghadai’s mother Rohini Ghadai. The accused have admitted to their crime during interrogation.
Police said Ghadai was in a relationship with a woman under Bada Bazaar police limits and continued to meet her even after her marriage. The residents and the woman’s minor brother-in-law raised objections but Ghadai refused to listen and continued with the relationship. Ghadai even molested the sister of another minor boy in the locality a few days before the murder.
Enraged over this, the two minors took one of their friends into confidence and hatched a plan to get rid of Ghadai. Accordingly, the two minors invited Ghadai to join them for drinks to Sana Bazaar Square. There they made him take liquor following which he slipped into inebriated condition. The three then carried him in an auto-rickshaw to Haladiadar flyover even as Ghadai picked up fights with passersby.
There they went down the over-bridge. They called someone over phone and sought his assistance for the murder. They bludgeoned his head with two large stones and slit his throat with a blade. Later, they dumped the body in a nearby nullah before fleeing.
