3 Odisha players enter semifinals

Bhubaneswar: Debashis Sahoo, Rabi Narayan Sahoo and Vayam Krishna of Odisha entered the semifinals in the U-14 boys’ singles of the Gurukul AITA OTA Talent Series U-14 tennis tournament, which got underway at the Gurukul Resort Tennis Complex here, Wednesday.

Top seed Debashis beat Subhranil Barman of West Bengal 6-2, 6-0; third seed Vayam defeated statemate and sixth seed Kamalesh Rath 6-4, 7-5 while Rabi trounced Debabrata Pradhan 6-2, 6-1. Second seed Sagnik Bose of West Bengal spanked fifth seed Chirag Batra of Odisha 6-4, 6-1.

Training camp concludes

The three week-long training camp of the Indian team for the upcoming Asian Games Sports Climbing concluded at the Kalinga Stadium Sports Climbing Complex here Wednesday. The camp was jointly organised by Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) and State Sports and Youth Affairs Department under the guidance of American coach Kristofer Peters.

Comprehensive win

East Zone eves registered a comprehensive seven-wicket victory over South Zone in a match of the Inter-Zonal Women’s U-19 One Day cricket tournament in Chennai, Wednesday.

Chasing a paltry target of 86, East Zone lost their skipper Dhara Gujjar (zero) in the third over of the match with the scores reading three for one. However, the other opener Poonam Nayak (40), along with Subhra (25) put on 54 runs for the second wicket to stabilise the innings and achieve the win easily.

Earlier, Mamata Paswan (3/14), Sreya Karar (3/14) and Poonam (2/10) helped the winning side restrict the hosts to 85 all out after South Zone won the toss and opted to bat. For the hosts, S Trisha (29) and Sandhya Naik (16) were the only batswomen to reach the double digit scores.
