3 of a family killed after motorcycle collides with ambulance in Jajpur district

Jajpur: In a tragic road accident, three persons including a couple and a child were killed after a head-on collision between an ambulance and a motorbike on national highway (NH-16) near Neulapur under Dharmasala police limits in Jajpur district Friday afternoon.

The deceased have been as Shankar Sahu (50), Mamina Sahu (42) and Sampurna Sahu (five) of Gopal Sahi locality of Bidanasi area in Cuttack city, Dharmasala police sources informed.

According to sources, Shankar was riding the bike on his way to Panikoili from Cuttack with his wife and daughter on pillion, when they were hit by an ambulance coming from the opposite direction.

As road construction work was underway, vehicles from both directions were moving on one side of the road. All three died on the spot after the head-on collision. The driver of the ambulance fled from the spot following the accident. Sources said that in spite of restrictions on speed, the ambulance was moving at a very fast pace.

Dharmasala police seized the bodies and sent them for post-mortem. The police have registered a case in this connection and launched investigation to find out the reason behind accident. They are also on the lookout for the ambulance driver.
