3 schoolgirls fall sick during mini marathon, hospitalised

Baripada: Three tribal girl students of Chandua High School fell sick while taking part in a mini marathon organised here Sunday.

Rashmirekha Singh, Sonali Murmu and Hiramani Murmu, were admitted to the PRM Medical College and Hospital here.

Reports said the students had not been informed about the marathon in advance. Over 50 students had to wake up in the wee hours of Sunday and had to run for two km from Chandua Chhak to the Block Chhak. They complained of chest pain and later fell sick.

The school authorities rushed them to PRM Medical College and Hospital.

Meanwhile, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has raised objections to it and alleged that the Biju Yuba Bahini had taken the tribal students to the marathon without any provision of medical team for the participants.

Health of the students was not checked before their participation, the JMM alleged, adding that the students were taken to the hospital in an auto-rickshaw instead of an ambulance.

JMM leader Kalinga Keshari Jena demanded stern action against the school authorities and the officials who had organised the marathon without taking any medical precaution.
