3 siblings arrested for killing elderly couple for a sack of rice

Keonjhar: Police Tuesday arrested three brothers in connection with the murder of an elderly couple of Khuntakata village under Sadar police limits in Keonjhar district January 13.

Police probe revealed, the couple was killed by the three brothers for a mere sack of rice. The deceased couple was identified as Milu Nayak and Kasturi Pradhan of the same village.

A complaint was lodged in this regard after the bodies were recovered from a well nearby the village forest. Based on the statement, police had launched a probe and arrested the brothers.

During the interrogation, the accused, three brothers, confessed that they killed the elderly couple for a sack of rice and Rs 1200.

Reportedly, the elderly couple was engaged to guard a stone crusher unit in Kasada area. In an attempt to loot, the three brothers strayed into the crusher unit January 13. After being intercepted by the elderly couple, the three brothers killed them and dumped their bodies in a well.

A case has been registered under relevant Sections of the IPC against the accused, the police said.
