3 students drown in Nalia river in Bhadrak

Bhadrak: In a tragic incident, three students died after drowning in the Nalia river here in this district Tuesday. All the deceased were Plus-II students of Charampa College in this district. They have been identified as Pranay Lenka, Smruti Ranjan Swain and Rajat Jena.

Sources said that the five friends from Langudi area under Bhadrak Rural police station went for a bath in the Nalia river Tuesday morning. While taking the bath, all the five slipped into deeper waters and were drowned. In trying to help one another, all the five got drowned.

Hearing their screams for help, locals rushed to the spot. The Fire department personnel were also informed who arrived on the spot quickly and retrieved the bodies with the help of the locals.

The five students were rushed to the district headquarters hospital here, but three of them were pronounced dead on arrival by doctors. The condition of the two others is stated to be critical.

Bhadrak MLA Sanjib Kumar Mallick and block chairperson reached the hospital to console bereaved families. They also told doctors to provide the best possible treatment to the two other students who are undergoing treatment.

“We were at the temple when we received a call that they (the deceased) have drowned in the Nalia river gorge. We rushed to the spot, but by then they had already shifted them to the hospital in an ambulance,” said a relative of one of the deceased.
