31 NISER students test positive for Covid-19, hostel declared as containment zone

Bhubaneswar: A total of 31 students of the National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) here have tested positive for Covid-19 as per information provided Tuesday by the Tehsildar of Jatni, Tapan Mohapatra today. One of the hostels of NISER has been declared as a ‘containment zone’. Outsiders will not be allowed to come in while residents of the hostel will not be allowed to step out.

The students who have tested positive for Covid-19 have been kept in isolation. Doctors are also attending to them on a regular basis. As a precautionary measure the entire campus of NISER has been sanitised, informed an official of the educational institution.

Sources stated that all the infected persons are first year students of NISER. They were staying at the hostel after completing the admission formalities.

Odisha also witnessed a huge spike in Covid-19 cases. The state registered 680 new cases of Covid-19. Among those infected were 119 children below 18 years of age. This is the largest spike registered in the state in more than three months.

The Test Positivity Rate (TPR) in the state, which was below one per cent for the last couple of months, has now gone up to 1.31 per cent. Khurda district reported 263 fresh infections, the largest among the districts. It was followed by Sundargarh (69) and Cuttack (59).
