3,161 from state appear for JEE Advanced

Bhubaneswar: Altogether 1.76 lakh students across the country appeared for the JEE (Advanced) 2019 that began Monday.

A total of 3,161 students from Odisha are appearing for the test at examination centres in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Rourkela and Berhampur.

The test is being held in two sittings. While the Paper-I test is being held from 9am to 12pm, the paper-II is conducted from 2pm to 4pm. As per a decision, differently-abled students are being allowed an additional one hour to write the test.

The computer-based test is conducted by Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Roorkee under the guidance of Joint Admission Board (JAB). The test is held for admissions to 23 IITs and nine other premium institutes – IIPE Visakhapatnam, IISER Bhopal, IISER Kolkata, IISER Pune, IISC Bangalore, IISER Mohali, IISER Thiruvananthapuram, RGIPT Rae Bareli and IIST Thiruvananthapuram.

The rank card for successful candidates will be released online June 14. Based on the scores, students can take admission in their desired IITs and engineering branches.

Notably, the deadline for online registration for the exam was postponed from May 9 to 14 after Cyclone Fani caused large-scale devastation in Odisha, disrupting Internet connectivity.

Prior to that, JEE Advanced 2019 exam date had also been pushed back to May 27 from May 19 due to clash with Lok Sabha polls.
