Digapahandi: The Digapahandi block education officer (BEO) in Ganjam district has withheld the salary payment of 33 school teachers on charge of leaving headquarters in violation of the COVID-19 guidelines issued by the state School and Mass Education department, a report said.

The BEO Basant Kumar Panda has even issued show-cause notices to them while withholding their salary payment. The BEO has asked them – why action will not be taken against them for violating COVID-19 guidelines. While 29 teachers have replied to the notice, four of them are yet to reply, Panda said.

The block has 416 teachers who have been engaged in the supervision and management of the quarantine centre and to look after the well-being of the returnees till their stay. They have been also posted at the Berhampur railway station to collect the details of the migrant workers returning from various states. The district administration has recently asked over 800 teachers to join the ‘Ama Swasthya, Ama Daitwa’ programme and a mega screening camp for health examination of the people, the BEO said.
