Khuntuni: Around 34 children of Parbatipur village under Kandarei panchyat were taken ill after consuming stale food Monday.
Sources said the children were served the food that was prepared a day before. The food was prepared on the occasion of the final (11th) day of mourning of one Chilika Purti Sunday.
The family members preferred handia, an intoxicant prepared from watery rice mixed with condiments, to meat and rice arranged for everyone, said late Chilika’s son Matu Purtti.
The food was distributed among the village kids Monday morning. However, the children started vomiting blood after eating the stale food. They were rushed to Athgarh hospital for treatment.
“The children were discharged from the hospital after treatment. All the children are out of danger,” said Athgarh sub-divisional medical officer (SDMO) Bijay Kumar Mishra.
