36-year-old woman burnt to death in Jajpur, two-year-old baby escapes

Jajpur: In a shocking incident, a 36-year-old woman was burnt to death after fire broke out at her thatched house at Srirampur village under Mangalpur police limits in Jajpur district in the wee hours of Sunday.

Fortunately, her two-year-old daughter had a miraculous escape.

The deceased has been identified as Madhusmita Nayak. She was fast asleep when the mishap occurred.

According to a source, it was around 2.00 am when some locals spotted the house already in flame.  They did not succeed in rescuing the woman immediately as the door was locked from the inside.

On being informed, fire personnel reached the spot, broke open the door and rescued the woman.

They also rescued her two-year-old baby who was marked safe. The woman and her baby were immediately rushed to Jajpur district headquarters hospital. However, it was too late.

The doctors pronounced her received the dead but the baby was out of danger.

While the exact reason behind the fire mishap is yet to be ascertained, the police have meanwhile launched a probe.
