4 die, 8 injured in separate road mishaps

Bonai/Deogarh/Balasore: At least four people were killed while another eight were left with serious injuries in separate incidents of road accidents in the state, Wednesday.

In the first incident, a person was killed and six others injured after a Scorpio ferrying them hit a truck near Haldipada in Balasore district.

Reportedly, the SUV was returning to Kolkata from Puri when the driver of the vehicle was not able to spot the truck parked on the roadside and rammed into its rear.

As a result, a youth identified as Nira Bora died on the spot while the injured have been admitted to Balasore district headquarters hospital (DHH).

Similarly, two persons travelling on a bike were killed after their two-wheeler rammed into a wall of a bridge at Bhalupani under Tikayatapali police limits of Bonai in Sundargarh district.

The deceased were identified as Dablu Munda (23) of Dahichur village and Rasananda Pahuley (22) of Bandhabhuian village.

Similarly, in another incident reported near Purunagarh tehsil office in Deogarh town, an elderly man lost his life after a speeding truck collided head-on with his scooter when he was on his way home.

The deceased sexagenarian was identified as Karunakar Sahu of Nilagandia village under Riamala block.

Tension erupted in the area after a few locals staged a road blockade near the spot by placing the body in the middle of the road. Even as police rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the mob. The irked locals are yet to withdraw the agitation till last reports came in.
