Koraput/Kolabnagar: With the incessant rains battering Koraput district, the water level in ‘D’ dam of Machhkund hydropower project reached 2789 feet following which four gates of the reservoir were opened between 10 am-2.30 pm Sunday.
The outflow of water from the dam through gate no- 5, 6, 7, 8 was recorded 16000 cusec per minute.
While the danger mark of the dam is 2790 feet, the water level has reached 2789 feet.
Similarly, danger mark of Jalaput reservoir is 2750 feet and now the water level has reached 2748 feet. As a precautionary measure, five gates of the reservoir are opened to discharge the excess water.
Notably, two gates of Jalaput dam were first opened July 16 followed by opening of four gates July 19, two gates August 8 and four gates August 13.
Likewise, in view of the enhancing inflow of water into Kolab reservoir, one gate of the dam was opened Sunday. The capacity of the dam is 858 metre.
