4 held for attack on Superintendent of PRM Medical College & Hospital

Baripada: Police arrested at least four persons Tuesday night who happen to be kin of the 17-year-old girl patient who had died in the Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital (PRMMCH) Baripada in Mayurbhanj district, allegedly owing to medical negligence November 2.

The four arrested are namely Laxmi Patra, Laxmi Bindhani, Suni Patra, Nirmal Kumar Pradhan who were booked under different Sections of IPC, including Section 51 of DM Act, Section 3 of Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage of Property) Act 2008.

Worthy to note, amid outrage the superintendent of PRMMCH Dr Baikunthanath Mohapatra was assaulted by the kin of the minor girl. The girl Supriya, daughter of Sunaram Patra of Rangamatia village under Shyamakhunta block in Mayurbhanj district was admitted to the hospital October 30. She had been suffering from Thalassemia.

Her father had alleged that she died as blood transfusion could not take place when it was needed. Tension ran high at the hospital over her death and her kins staged a sit-in by placing the body in front of the main gate. Mohapatra tried to placate the irate family members.

However, Baripada town police swung into action and arrested four persons in this connection.
