Deogarh/Phulbani: In three separate mishaps, four persons were killed while more than 11 were injured in Deogarh and Kandhamal districts.
In the first incident, three persons lost their lives while six others were critically injured in a road mishap that took place at Khulundipani under Barkot police limits in Deogarh Sunday evening.
According to sources, the three had gone to Bonai in Sundargarh district to attend a cultural programme and were returning to their village in a truck. The driver of the truck lost control on the wheels and the vehicle overturned near a temple on National Highway-23 at Khulundipani.
In Kandhamal district, five people suffered critical injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in fell off the Gudrimera Ghat under Daringbadi police limits Monday.
The injured were identified as Jagannath Sahoo of Puri district, Debasis Dutta, Subarna Dutta, Bela Dutta and a minor from Howrah in West Bengal whose identity is yet to be ascertained.
According to sources, they were en-route to Brahmanigaon when the car driver lost control on the wheels and the vehicle fell off the Gudrimera Ghat. A police team led by Daringbadi IIC Alekh Garadia reached the spot and rushed the injured to a local hospital.
Later, they were shifted to MKCG Medical and Hospital in Berhampur as their condition deteriorated.
In another incident, locals of Kanabagiri staging a road blockade on the G. Udayagiri-Baliguda road Monday following the death of a youth in a road accident Sunday night.
According to sources, Om Prakash Pradhan of Katarganada was killed after being run over by an unknown vehicle at Kanabagiri. The protesting locals demanded adequate compensation to the bereaved family.
