4 killed, 3 critically injured in Angul road mishap as ambulance rams into gas tanker

Angul: In a tragic road mishap Sunday morning, four persons were killed and three others sustained grievous injuries after an ambulance rammed into a gas tanker on NH-55 near Jarapada Chhak in Angul district.

According to an eyewitness, the ill-fated ambulance was on its way to SCB Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) in Cuttack carrying a patient from Burla in Sambalpur district. Driver of the ambulance lost control over the vehicle and rammed into the gas tanker in the morning killing four persons on the spot, the eyewitness added.

On being informed by locals, Angul SP Jagmohan Meena including a police team immediately reached the accident site. Police rescued the injured and sent them to Angul district headquarters hospital (DHH) for treatment.

Health condition of the three injured are critical now, Meena said.

Local police have recovered the bodies and sent them to the DHH for postmortem. Police have also seized the gas tanker and detained its driver for interrogation. An investigation in this connection is underway.
