4 killed, 8 hurt in separate road mishaps

Keonjhar/Kendrapara/Sonepur: Four persons were killed while eight others sustained serious injuries in three separate road mishaps in Keonjhar, Sonepur and Kendrapara districts, Saturday morning.

In the first incident in Keonjhar district, a van carrying six persons to a marriage ceremony lost control and overturned near Badapichhula Chhak Friday evening killing a youth on spot and injuring five others.

While four of the injured were admitted to Harichandanpur Hospital after preliminary treatment at Pandapada Community Health Centre, the driver was shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as his health condition worsened.

On being informed, police reached the spot and seized the youth’s body and the mangled vehicle.

Similarly, in Kendrapara district, a pick-up van carrying four persons turned turtle near Chitraptola in Patkura area. An elderly man was killed on the spot, while three others were injured in the mishap. The injured were rescued and rushed to Kendrapara District Headquarters Hospital (DHH).

The deceased has been identified as Bharat Mallick (50) of Mehendipur village. According to sources, the mishap occurred when the passengers in the vehicle were returning home after attending a marriage function. The incident occurred due to poor visibility due to heavy fog, said a local.

On being alerted, cops reached the spot and seized the body for postmortem, sources said.

The injured were rescued and first rushed to the nearby hospital. Later, he was shifted to Cuttack-based SCB Medical College and Hospital.

In another accident, two youths were killed after the bike they were travelling by had a head-on collision with a truck on NH-57 at Badajhinki Friday evening. The two victims were identified as Ranjit Mallick (30) and Parameswar Baghar (25) of Phagunamala village under Manamunda police limits in Boudh district.
