4 killed as ambulance collides head-on with tanker in Rayagada district

Rayagada: In a tragic road mishap, four persons were killed and one seriously injured after the ambulance they were travelling in collided with a tanker near Manjurukupa under Ambadala police limits in Rayagada district Friday. The identities of the deceased persons are yet to be ascertained.

According to a source, a woman was undergoing treatment at the Bissamkatak government hospital. She succumbed while undergoing treatment. Four members of her family were returning with her body in the ambulance to Kapilbhatta village of Bangomunda area in Bolangir district when the accident occurred.

As the vehicle neared Manjurukupa village, it met with a head-on collision with a tanker which was going from Jharsuguda to Tikiri. The impact was so terrifying that three people died on the spot.

Locals immediately rescued the remaining two who were severly injured and rushed them to Muniguda government hospital. While undergoing treatment there, one of them died.

Police reached the spot after being informed about the accident. They sent the bodies for post-mortem.

A detailed investigation is underway to ascertain the cause that led to the mishap.
