4 killed; many hurt in road mishaps

Berhampur/Balasore/Kendrapara: At least four persons including two girls died and many were injured in separate road mishaps Monday.

In the first incident, a man was killed while his wife and two sons were critically injured in an accident near Jagannathpur along the Digapahandi-Aska road in Ganjam district.

According to sources, the family was going on a motorcycle in the morning when they were hit by a Bolero vehicle from behind on Digapahandi-Aska road. The impact of the collision was such that the man driving it died on the spot. His wife and two sons were rescued and rushed to the nearby hospital and later shifted to MKCG hospital College and Hospital.

On receipt of information about the incident, police reached the spot.

Similarly, a motorcyclist was killed while two others suffered critical injuries after they met with an accident near Brahmanpokhari under Khaira Police limits in Soro area of Balasore district.

The deceased youth was identified as Rakesh Behera. He was working as a security guard.

According to sources, Rakesh along with two other was returning home after attending a marriage function when the motorcycle he was riding went out of control and hit a roadside tree.

While Rakesh died on the spot, two others who were critically injured were rushed to the nearby hospital. On being informed, police rushed to the spot and seized the vehicle.

Similarly in Kendrapara, two girls died and a youth sustained critical injuries after a bus hit a scooter on which they were travelling on NH-16 at Chhagharia Chhak in Kendrapara district Monday.

According to reports, bus ‘Haramani’, which was on its way to Paradip from Champua, knocked down a two-wheeler from rear killing the two girls on the spot. The deceased have been identified as residents of Marshaghai in the district. The injured youth has been hospitalised.

The scooter, bearing No. OR-05AR-4298, is registered in the name of Narayan Samal.
