Mahakalpara: In a painful incident, a family of four comprising a couple and their two minor daughters sustained critical injuries after unidentified desperadoes hurled acid on them at Patlipanka under Mahakalapara block in Kendrapara district late Tuesday night.
The injured have been identified as Himanshu Barik (30), his wife Minati Barik (28) and their minor daughters Shalini (7) and Sonali (2).
The four were rescued in a critical condition and admitted to the district headquarters hospital (DHH). After first-aid, they were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack as their condition worsened. Himanshu sustained critical injuries in his eyes and face and his condition remained critical, sources said.
According to sources, Himanshu, his wife and two minor daughters were fast asleep after dinner in their house when unidentified persons entered the house and threw acid on them through an open window.
Luckily, the other daughter had a close shave with minor injuries. Although the exact reason for the attack was not known immediately, family members suspected the attack was over a previous enmity.
According to villagers, Himanshu had a tiff with a youth of the village two days back. They suspected the youth to be the perpetrator.
On receipt of information, police registered a case and launched a probe into the incident. The incident spread tension in the village as angry villagers demanded immediate arrest of the accused and proper investigation into the case.
“The exact reason behind is attack is yet to be ascertained. We have begun a probe into the incident,” police said.
