Barang: Thousands of tourists from across the state and outside visited the Nandankanan Zoological Park (NZP) and adjacent Botanical Garden here on the New Year’s Day.
NZP sources said the zoo witnessed footfall of altogether 43,427 visitors Tuesday and collected revenue to the tune of Rs 18.98 lakh.
The reptile park, nocturnal animals’ enclosures, bird enclosure and the tiger safari were the most sought-after places for visitors, said a source at the NZP. Many visitors also enjoyed boating at the nearby Kanjia Lake, the source added.
According to sources, altogether 38,577 people had visited NZP on last New Year’s Day. The zoo had collected revenue worth Rs 13.52 lakh on the occasion.
“The NZP had received a record number of 50,338 visitors on the New Year’s Day of 2013,” said a zoo official.
Similarly, altogether 2,908 people visited the Botanical Garden Tuesday. The garden authorities collected revenue worth 1.07 lakh by selling entry tickets to the visitors.
“A total of 2,188 people visited Botanical Garden on the last New Year’s Day. We had collected revenue worth Rs 82, 680 then,” said an official of the garden.
