Bhubaneswar: Institute of Physics, Bhubaneswar celebrated its 44th Foundation Day on its premises here Tuesday.
Professor DD Sarma of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The session was chaired by Prof Sudhakar Panda, Director, Institute of Physics, in the presence of Prof BR Sekhar, RK Rath and Dr B Mohanty. The Chief Guest also delivered the Foundation Day Colloquium, meant for students and researcher from all branches of physics.
The event included a scientific talk on “A new generation of photovoltaic material” where Professor Sarma focused on his team’s effort with “methyl ammonium lead halides” and related compounds which have extraordinary photovoltaic properties. Giving talk about ‘Nurturing Science’, Sarma said, “Every child is a scientist because a child is not afraid to ask questions and is very truthful to an observation”.
The event ended with a programme to promote the dying art and culture of Odisha. Dance troupes of Mayurbhanj performed the Chhau dance, followed by the popular Ghoda Nacha, a dummy horse dance, by a local group.
Director of the institute Sudhakar Panda said’ we started from a guest house in Utkal University and struggled for 44 years.Today we are an institute of repute and I call upon all my colleagues,students,andreserachers to keep the flag flying high’.
