New Delhi: The Centre Tuesday informed the Supreme Court it is open to lifting restrictions in a phased manner on 4G mobile internet services on a trial basis in certain select areas of Jammu and Kashmir.
4G ban will be lifted in one district each in Jammu and Kashmir divisions from August 16, said Attorney Gerneral KK Venugopal.
The Centre also informed the top court that they are ready to lift restrictions on high speed internet on a trial basis in certain areas of Jammu and Kashmir. The phased lifting of the internet ban will be carried out from August 16.
Earlier, the Supreme Court, had August 7, while hearing a contempt petition against the Jammu and Kashmir administration, sought to know from the Solicitor General Tushar Mehta if fast speed internet service can be restored in any part of Jammu and Kashmir.
