Cuttack: Cuttack Sadar police Thursday arrested five people on charges of attempting to loot an ATM kiosk under 42 Mouza Outpost October 12.
The accused were identified as Sudarshan Mallick, Sahil alias Siddhi Swarup Raul, 21, of Bharatapur under Khandagiri police limits, Vicky alias Rajesh Kumar Gahana,24, Anil Kumar Behera,19, and Raja alias Anshuman Abhijit.
According to sources, the accused had entered into the TATA Indi-Cash ATM at Bentakar Mohanty Plaza Market Complex October 12 to steal the cash. However, the kiosk caught fire when they were trying to cut open the machine with the help of a gas cutter. Meanwhile, some locals spotted the ATM kiosk burning and informed the police.
Debasish Choudhury, a bank official who loads cash of Tata Communication Payment Solutions Limited (TCPSL) had lodged a complaint with the police who later registered a case (397/18) under Sections of 380 and 511 of IPC and started a probe.
During interrogation, Sudarshan and his associates revealed that they had used a rented cab (OD 02 AR 1513) in the incident, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Cuttack Akhilesvar Singh.
Police seized six mobile phones, a gas cylinder, gas cutter, gas pipe, laptop, wallet, 400 grams silver jewellery, one camera and a car from them.
