Chandipur: Five contractual staff working at the Defence Research & Development Organisation (DRDO) in Chandipur were detained for questioning Tuesday by a special team of the Balasore police. It has been alleged that they are involved in espionage and have allegedly passed out secret information of the defence organisation.
Sources said that the five were detained at the main gate of DRDO’s integrated test range (ITR) as they have been allegedly involved in sharing high-security information about the defence organisation. They have been passing on the information over telephone to agents of foreign countries. The five contractual staff was detained by a special team led by Eastern Range IG. The sources also informed that the five were working as manual operators at the defence installation for quite some time.
It is pertinent to mention, earlier this year a contract photographer at the ITR was arrested for passing on information to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The photographer, Ishwar Begera, is currently serving a life sentence after being convicted in the case.
