Pottangi: As many as five children have reportedly died due to various illness within a month at Chikaparu village in Goluru-Amphabali panchayat under Nandapur block of Koraput district, a medical source informed Monday.
After health check-up conducted by a medical team, it was found that three of the five infants died owing to malaria and two others due to diarrhoea and aspiration pneumonia, respectively.
Meanwhile, a medical team including child specialists has reached the tribal-dominated village and carried out health check-up of all the infants. The step was taken close on the heels of Koraput district Health Department receiving a report in this regard, the source added.

“A Chikaparu villager named Gemal Ramarao lost his seven-month-old girl March 5, another resident Marisma’s daughter succumbed March 9, Sundar Rao’s son March 15 and sons of Mary Naidu and Gemal Lengu died March 17 this year,” CDMO of Koraput stated.
“After reviewing the situation at the village, we learnt that a total of five babies have died in a month. After health check-up conducted by a medical team, we found that three of the five infants died owing to malaria and two others due to diarrhoea and aspiration pneumonia respectively,” the CDMO in charge Dr Arun Kumar Padhi said.
