Chhatrapur: Not all is well at some the quarantine centres where migrant worker returning from other states have been kept in isolation.
A dead lizard was found in the cooked dal which was served to inmates at Khurigaon primary school quarantine centre under Chhatrapur block in Ganjam district Monday night.
Sources said that by the time the dead lizard was spotted, 28 inmates had already finished their dinner. The lifeless reptile was found on the plate of one of the two remaining inmates who were yet to finish their dinner.
Five of the inmates started vomiting late arousing suspicion of food poisoning. On being informed, Chhatrapur BDO Ambika Prasad Das and a medical team reached the quarantine centre. The health conditions of the five inmates who had vomited were checked. Later when they complained of uneasiness and nausea they were sent to the Munisipentha community health centre. They are under observation now and their condition is stated to be stable.
District administration officials have started an investigation into the matter. It should be stated here that 30 persons have been put in quarantine at this particular centre. They have been there for one week. In the past also some of the inmates have complained about the neglect being meted out to them.
