Keonjhar/Deogarh/Jajpur: As many as five people were killed and while another survived with serious injuries in separate road mishaps Sunday.
In the first incident, two persons were killed and a woman sustained critical injuries after an unknown vehicle hit an auto-rickshaw here in Keonjhar district late Saturday night.
The deceased persons have been identified as Mithun Nayak and Jambu Mahakud, both from Gidhibas village. The injured woman identified as Kunkuli Mahakud, wife of Jambu Mahakud, was admitted to the Keonjhar District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
The accident took place at around 10.00 pm when Jambu along with his wife Kunkuli was traveling in an auto-rickshaw towards Bileipada.
An unidentified vehicle hit the auto-rickshaw critically injuring the auto driver Mithun Nayak and Mahakud couple near Basudevpur Square under Champua police limits.
The trio was rushed to the DHH in critical condition where Jambu and Mithun were declared dead. The condition of Jambu’s wife Kunkuli is stated to be critical.
Similarly, a speeding truck hit a motorcycle on which Prashanta Luha and his wife Namita Luha of Tankabira village under Reamal police limits in Deogarh district were travelling, killing the duo on the spot.
Similarly, a father-son duo travelling on a scooter was hit and run over by a truck at Benapur Chhak under Korei police limits in Jajpur district. While the father died on the spot, the son sustained critical injuries and was hospitalised.
Tension gripped the place following the incident as locals blocked road demanding compensation for the family of the victims.
