Jabalpur: Five passengers were killed and 18 others injured when their bus overturned after colliding with a truck in this Madhya Pradesh district early Sunday morning, according to the police.
The accident took place around 2.30am near Bargi bypass, located about 10 km from Jabalpur city.
The private bus, which was going from Katni to Balaghat, collided with a truck coming from the opposite direction and then overturned, Bargi police station in-charge RD Dwivedi said. Among those killed was a five-year-old girl.
The 18 injured have been admitted to a government hospital in Jabalpur city. The death toll may rise as five among the injured are critical said the police official.
Most of the passengers were asleep when the accident occurred. Locals rushed to the spot to extract passengers who were trapped under the overturned bus. It was because of their prompt intervention that many lives were saved, said other officials.
