Bhubaneswar: The Sahid Nagar police Monday night busted a dacoit gang by arresting five persons from Shantipalli slum in the capital city. One of the arrested has been identified as Biswajit Swain (30). It has been alleged that he is an aide of BJP national spokesperson and Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi.
According to the police, Biswajit is a resident of Chakeisiani village under Mancheswar police limits. He is allegedly the MP’s ward representative and is often seen in various party meetings and programmes.
During patrolling in the night, a team of Sahid Nagar police personnel was tipped off about the gang preparing the plans in Shantipalli slum for committing a robbery in the city. The team swooped down and arrested all the five members.
A 9 mm semi-automatic pistol, three live bullets, a car (OD02 AM-6569) and four iron rods were seized from their possession.
The accused confessed to their crime during interrogation. Registering a case, the police have launched a probe.
