Balasore: A task force of Kharagpur Railway Protection Force (RPF) arrested five members of a train looting gang from a train between Belda and Rupsa stations in Balasore district Friday.
The gang has been looting passengers in trains running in Kharagpur railway division.
The RPF had got a tip-off that the miscreants were trying to loot some passengers in a train. RPF task force-C comprising inspector Prakash Jaiswal, sub-inspector Ashish Kumar Das, constables Dhirendra Kumar Nayak, Ranjan Kumar Mohanty, Khirod Kumar Behera and Rajendra Prasad in plain clothes started checking some suspicious passengers.
While checking the bags of passengers, Bimal Kumar Mahat, Jyotish Mandal, Bikash Kumar, Badal Mallick and Sourabh Kumar hailing from Munger district of Bihar opposed the action.
The RPF team seized a single shooter pipe gun, a bullet, a knife, 10 cell phones, three money purses, some cash and debit cards from their possession.
The RFP immediately arrested the five. The accused admitted before the RPF team that they loot passengers between Belda and Rupsa railway stations.
A case was registered against them and they will be produced in a court in West Bengal, RPF said.
