Bhubaneswar: Works of 45 painters are on show at an exhibition under way at Suvadra Art Gallery here. The exhibition that commenced Saturday is themed on Lord Jagannath. All paintings on show focus on the rituals and the legends associated with the Lord.
Christina Warbureon, an art connoisseur from the US, said she was excited about the visit to the gallery. “Lord Jagannath is a cult figure and anything related to him excites me,” she said. Roxy Miller, another visitor from the US, said he could feel divinity through the paintings.
Gallery chairman Surya Rath said the exhibition was aimed at attracting more tourists for the ongoing Rath Yatra. It will conclude July 28. “Lord Jagannath is the God of the masses. People of diverse faiths with their distinct social backgrounds have worshipped Lord Jagannath as their own. The gallery showcases a large collection of quality paintings in acrylic, water colour, charcoal and mixed media devoted to the Lord.”
Gallery director Ashok Nayak said: “One salient feature of culture of Lord Jagannath is tolerance, which is an outstanding human value. The exhibition is dedicated to the promotion of Jagannath culture among art lovers throughout the world who are visiting Odisha for the Rath Yatra.”
Works of Pranam Singh (Banaras), Sunil Viswakarma (Banaras), Rabi Narayana Rath, Baladev Moharatha, Manas Ranjan Jena, Sunil Viswakarma, Binodini Behera, Rajiv Lochan Sahoo, Durga Das, Siba Panigrahi, Kumud Dash, Tapan Dash, Chintamani Biswal and Dr Geetika are among the ones on display at the exhibition.
