Berhampur: Police collected fine amounting to Rs1 lakh from COVID-19 guideline violators in 24 hours ending Saturday 6am, informed Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra in a tweet.
Coronavirus situation in Ganjam district has been getting worse with each passing day. To check the spread of the virus, the district administration and the state government are taking many steps.
That said, flouting COVID-19 norms goes on as usual.
During checks at different chowks of Berhampur town between Friday 6am and Saturday 6am, police caught 500 people for not wearing masks and collected Rs1 lakh from them as fines.
Similarly, 131 traffic violators were also caught during the same period and fines to the tune of Rs 65,400 was collected from them. These apart, while Rs 1,000 was collected from a person for not obeying social distancing norms, two were arrested for selling liquor illegally.
It may be mentioned here that Odisha’s COVID-19 tally Saturday rose to 16,701 with 591 fresh infections while the death toll reached 86 with three more patients succumbing to the disease. One of the fatalities and maximum of 182 fresh cases were reported from Ganjam district.
