500 kg cannabis seized in Ganjam

Berhampur:  Southern excise intelligence department Wednesday seized a truck loaded with at least 500 kg of ganja (cannabis). The seizure was made at Golaimunda chhak in Ganjam district and three persons were arrested in this connection, the department said. The accused were court-forwarded, an officer of the excise intelligence department, Dhiren Kumar Behera, said.

The accused were identified as Sujan Kumar Sahoo, 36, Rabi Narayan Sahoo, 23 and Karun Nayak, 27. The preliminary investigation revealed that the contrabands were being transported illegally from Adaba of Berhampur in Ganjam district to Bihar when the department seized the narcotics.

‘We got the tip off about the consignment of ganja headed to Bihar. The truck was intercepted and seized near Golaimunda Chhak, said Behera.

As many as 20 packets of ganja, packed in plastic bags were loaded in the truck. Behera added that a probe is on to arrest the accused.
