Bhubaneswar: As many as 5,000 cops under Commissionerate Police have tested negative for coronavirus, informed Police Commissioner Sudhansu Sarangi.
After the news of 250 policemen in Mumbai infected by the virus reached Odisha, the Commissionerate Police rose to the situation and subjected its policemen to COVID-19 tests.
Commissioner Sarangi also informed that all police stations have been provided with body screening machines with screening of the policemen being carried out regularly.
If any policeman is found to be symptomatic, his/her swabs are being collected and sent for test. Similarly, those officials above the age of 50 have been assigned office duties only, the Commissioner informed.
Since social distancing is the only way to check the infection, some of the policemen staying in barracks have been sent to the hostel at Vani Vihar. They have been asked to use masks and sanitisers. Similarly, screening of policemen in reserve is also being carried out regularly, he added.
