Sundargarh: At least 56 people have been tested positive for dengue in Sundargarh district in last few weeks marking the outbreak of the vector-borne disease this season in the area.
Fresh cases of dengue outbreak have been confirmed in Khatkurbahal area under Kutra tehsil of Sundargarh district.
According to a source, out of 329 blood samples tested, 56 have been reported dengue positive. 54 out of these confirmed cases have been reported from Khatkurbahal while the remaining two are from Biramitrapur area.
While all these patients were initially admitted to Sundargarh district headquarters hospital, three of them were later shifted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar after their condition deteriorated.
According to the chief district medical officer here, sanitation and hygiene related issues are the most important factors behind mosquito breeding in Khatkurbahal area.
“We are sensitising the public on the issue and encouraging them to keep the surroundings clean in order to control rapid breeding of mosquitoes. The public have also been advised to use mosquito nets and use protecting clothing,” the CDMO said.
Besides, sanitation and health workers have been dispatched to the field, he informed.
