6 arrested for temple burglary

Jharsuguda: Acting on a tip-off, police Sunday arrested six persons on the charge of stealing silver ornaments from a Sai Temple near Jhanda Chowk here and recovered the stolen items.

The arrested were identified as Md Ashraf Ali, Md Ashrad, 20, Sabir Ahmed of Raigad in Chhattisgarh, Chottu Sindhiriya, 20, Md Shahjaad, 19, and Jamil Ahmed, 25.

According to police, the accused had burgled the silver ornaments from the temple January 25 after breaking open the locks. Following this, a complaint was lodged at Jharsuguda police station and a probe was launched.

A special team led by Jharsuguda IIC Sabitri Bal and SI P Swain conducted raids in several parts of the town and apprehended all the youths involved in the burglary.

The Railway Police had also interrogated the arrested youths in connection with a theft case January 20.

During the course of the investigation, it was ascertained that Ashraf is a history-sheeter and four criminal cases are registered against him at Jharsuguda police station, while Arshad and Aslam are involved in three criminal cases registered in the same police station.

Similarly, Sabir and Jamir are also involved in a case registered by Railway Police here, a police officer said, adding all the accused were produced in a court.
