6 critically injured as pickup van rams into ‘kutcha’ house in Nabarangpur district

Nabarangpur: Six people living in a ‘kutcha’ house were injured Monday when a goods-laden pickup van rammed into it at Jharabahal village under Chandahandi block in Nabarangpur district.

The six persons including four children of the family who have sustained injuries are Damurudhar Hati (60) and Manisha Gopal (27) and four kids-Sachin (10),  Satikanta (9), Nandini (7) and Ashok (9).

Other members of the house however, had a narrow escape, as they were in another room inside the house. The house was severely damaged in the mishap.

Damurudhar Hati (60), who has sustained multiple fractures on his legs and waist, is a resident of Jamadarpada village and had come to Jharabahala to meet a girl for his son’s marriage. The incident took place when he was about to return to his village this morning.

All the injured were admitted at the District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.

The driver of the pickup van fled the spot immediately after the mishap. Nabarangpur police have seized the truck and detained its owner for questioning.

A hunt has been launched to nab the accused driver.
