Baripada/Bhawanipatna/Soro: As many as six persons were killed and several others sustained grievous injuries Monday in separate incidents of road mishap in Odisha.
In the first incident, a PDS rice laden-truck turned turtle leaving three persons dead near Jodibaru locality in Baripada Sadar of Mayurbhanj district.
An elderly woman died on the spot and two more succumbed to injuries at Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College and Hospital (PRMMCH) in Baripada.
Six persons were injured in the accident, a source said.
In the second incident, as many as two persons were killed after a pick-up van hit a motorcycle near Kapasara village on NH-26 in Bhawanipatna town of Kalahandi district.

On being informed, local police reached the site and seized the pick-up van. However, driver of the vehicle had already fled from the spot soon after the accident.
In the third incident, a couple was on their way to Soro in Balasore district in a car when they met with a mishap.
The ill-fated vehicle hit a sand-laden Hyva truck which was standing on NH-16 near Kalitra Temple Square in Barikpur of Bhadrak district.
The man driving the car sustained grievous injuries in the mishap and his wife succumbed at a hospital while undergoing treatment.
Meanwhile, local police have registered separate cases and launched probes which are underway. Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem, a source informed.
It is pertinent to mention, six persons were killed and several others were injured in a bus accident near Bidu Chhak in Soro of Balasore district Saturday.
Likewise, a head-on collision between an SUV and a speeding truck on Mahanadi bridge in Subarnapur district led to the death of five people on the spot.
The five deceased persons were identified as Asish Pandia, Pramod Pandia, Siddhi Pandia, Trayambak Meher and Subham Pandia – all from Nimana village of Subarnapur.
According to an eyewitness, around 10 persons from Nimana village under Ullunda block of the district were on their way back home after attending a wedding reception ceremony at Kaudiamunda. The fatal road mishap occurred at around 1.30am.
Driver of an auto-rickshaw, which had gone out of order, had parked his vehicle for repair on the river bridge. While overtaking the auto-rickshaw, the SUV in which the marriage party was returning got confronted with the truck coming from the opposite direction.
Naveen Patnaik announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of 11 deceased persons in the two accidents.
