Boinda: Acting on a tip-off, a special squad of forest personnel arrested six poachers while the latter were laying livewires for poaching boars at Kutulisinga reserve forest under Dhandatopa range in Angul district.
The accused were identified as Narendra Nayak (24), Ramju Nayak (49), Panchanan Nayak (42) of Kutulisinga and Malay Sahu (28), Bairagi Dehuri (42) and Surendra Nayak (48) of Krutibashpur.
Three others — Hrudananda Nayak (45), Suresh Nayak (47) and Himanshu Rana (27) managed to flee during the raid. A case was registered and the accused were produced in Athamallik court.
The poachers had killed two wild boars by spreading live wires drawn from an 11-kv transmission lines. The poachers later sold the meat and consumed it too December 24.
The forest personnel seized over 200 metres of electric wires, five kg of GI wires and two motorcycles from the poachers.
ACF Rajendra Gochhayat received a tip-off about the presence of the poachers following which he directed Dhandatopa ranger Rahas Sahu to conduct a raid in the jungle.
