600 monthly ‘freedom passes’ sold: CRUT

‘Mo bus’ launched in Odisha capital

Bhubaneswar: The Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) has sold around 600 ‘Freedom Monthly Physical’ passes in half a month, an official said.

The freedom passes are aimed at helping elderly passengers or people who are not tech-savvy and travellers who don’t use the ‘Mo bus’ app.

“At CRUT we are always aiming for inclusive transportation. Through freedom passes we wanted to ensure that people who don’t own a smart phone can avail all services and discounts,” said a CRUT official.

The passes were made available since August 15 from kiosks set up throughout the city. The passes were given to buyers after they furnished a stamp sized photograph, identity card and the required charges.

Those who bought the monthly passes before August 31 will get a 25 per cent discount on fare as well as earn five days extra validity.

Although Friday was the last day to buy a freedom pass, people can still get it from the CRUT office in Bhubaneswar, but they won’t be getting the five day extra validity.

The Freedom Monthly Bhubaneswar Pass for AC buses is available for Rs 900 while for non-AC vehicles it’s Rs 600.

Travellers having Freedom Monthly Magic Pass can travel unlimited on all ‘Mo Bus’ routes. The passes are available for Rs 1,800 for AC and Rs 1,200 for non-AC buses.

‘Mo Bus’ services have a fleet of 200 vehicles which cater to around 70,000 passengers daily in the twin cities.
