Bhubaneswar: School and Mass Education (S&ME) Minister Samir Ranjan Das reviewed Tuesday the work of Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan (OAVS) at the Lok Seva Bhawan here. S&ME department Secretary Bishnupada Sethi, OAVS project director Premchand Chaudhary and other senior officials were present at the meeting.
At present, Odisha has 250 Adarsha Vidyalayas while 64 more such model schools to be made operational by June 17 this year. The new Adarsha Vidyalayas will provide education up to Class VI, sources said.
In the meeting, Dash asked officials to complete the construction of all model schools across the state by November 2023. He also put emphasis on completion of the construction work for hostels in these schools at the earliest.
During the meeting it was also decided to fill up 1,748 vacant posts at the model schools by June this year. Recruitment to the vacant posts will ensure smooth functioning of the model schools, said an official.
The Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya (OAV) scheme is the brainchild of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik for setting up of English medium schools in each block of Odisha. The Odisha Adarsha Vidyalaya Sangathan (OAVS) is the statutory body to establish, operate and manage such model schools in state. The OAVS was established September 19, 2015 under the Societies Registration Act 1860.
As per a decision taken at the meeting, the salary of 5,056 part-time instructors under the S&ME department would be raised to Rs 7,000 from Rs 5,555.
