Baripada: It was a time for celebration at Ganeswar Behera’s house as his wife Sumitra Behera (65), who had been missing for about 30 years, returned home Tuesday.
The incident occurred at Pariakuli village under Morada block in Mayurbhanj district.
Members of Shradha Charitable Trust (SCT) Odisha branch rescued Sumitra and helped her reunite with her family after three decades. Her family members were on cloud nine after finding her.
Sumitra, a mother of two children, started losing her mental stability in 1974. Her husband took her to many doctors but nothing came off it. One day, she ran away from house along with the photograph of a God.
Luckily, a member of SCT rescued the woman from Kariyat railway station, Mumbai in 2005 and admitted her at the Institute of Mental Hospital in Chennai. She soon recovered from her mental ailment. After a few days, an SCT member met Sumitra while admitting another patient at the same hospital.
After inquiring, it seemed like Sumitra remembered her family and her home address. Two SCT members, Laxmipriya and Sarita Deshmukh took Sumitra to Mayurbhanj to reunite her with her family. Everyone in the Behera household was elated after getting Sumitra back.
