7 killed, 14 injured in separate road mishaps

Angul/Dhenkanal/Jajpur: At least 7 people were killed while 13 others sustained injuries in separate road mishaps in Jajpur, Cuttack and Angul, Tuesday.

In the first incident, two bikers were killed after their motorbike met with an accident on National Highway-55 near Bamur under Kishorenagar police limits in Angul district.

The deceased have been identified as Manas Ranjan Pradhan, a native of Ugi village of Jarapada and Chandrakant Raula, a native of Tumuni village in Badakera.

The duo was on their way to Angul from Jharsuguda when the mishap occurred. Police have seized the body and started an investigation into the incident.

Similarly, two persons were killed and one seriously injured in a head-on collision between two tankers on National Highway 55 near Baladiabandh in Dhenkanal district.

The identities of the deceased and the injured are yet to be ascertained. The injured person was admitted to Dhenkanal district hospital.

On being informed, a police team from Govindpur outpost reached the spot, seized the vehicles and sent the bodies for post-mortem.

In Jajpur, at least one person died and 13 other sustained injuries after a tourist bus travelling from Damdam in West Bengal to Puri collided with a truck on National Highway-16 near Jarka on Brahmani bridge.

As per reports, the bus helper identified as Deva Das, a native of Huguli in West Bengal died on the spot. All the injured were immediately rushed to Dharmasala hospital, where they are undergoing treatment.

In another incident, two persons were killed after a container truck was hit by a speeding trawler near Bainchua village on National Highway-16 in Tangi area of Cuttack district. The duo was sitting inside the truck when the mishap occurred. Though the identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained, sources said they were driver and helper of the truck.
