Baripada: Mayurbhanj saw seven new leaders being elected to the Assembly with the BJP making inroads into this BJD bastion.
BJP’s Biseswar Tudu was elected as MP. He is a new face and an electrical engineer. Leaving his job, he plunged into politics and was successful in the first attempt.
Similarly, BJP’s Budhan Murmu who was elected from Saraskana Assembly constituency, is also new to politics. He was a doctor. Murmu defeated his nearest rival BJD’s Amar Singh.
Another new entrant to politics is Ganesh Ramsingh Khuntia, who was elected from Jashipur Assembly seat on a BJP ticket. Khuntia left his job as a PWD engineer and joined politics.
Sanatan Bijuli, who was elected from Badasahi constituency on a BJP ticket, is also new to politics. Earlier, he was working as a medical representative.
The other new face in the district is Basanti Hembram who was elected from Karanjia constituency on a BJD ticket. She was the Vice Chairperson of the Special Development Council.
Rairangpur Assembly seat also elected a new face. He is BJP leader Nabacharan Majhi. Majhi was already in active politics. He was Chairman of Rairangpur NAC.
Another new face is Rajkishore Das, who was elected as MLA on a BJD ticket from the Morada Assembly seat. Rajkishore had earlier contested elections, but could not win.
Interestingly, around 4,000 voters preferred NOTA in Rairangpur and Saraskana Assembly seats. It is said that the number of votes cast for NOTA spoiled the chances of some leaders. 2,106 people voted for NOTA in Rairangpur and 2,206 in Saraskana.
